Cultivate | Generosity 2

February 10, 2026

The sermon explored the radical principle that we cannot serve both God and money, and how our financial habits reveal what we truly worship. Just as assumptions about terrain can lead us to unexpected cliffs, our assumptions about money can leave us feeling perpetually on the edge financially. The core message was clear: when we put God first in our finances through intentional giving, saving, and living, we demonstrate that He is our true master, not the consumer culture around us. This isn't about legalism or giving to get, but about wrestling our hearts free from the grip of materialism and developing the spiritual muscle of generosity.

Takeaways:

• Practice the Give, Save, Live principle: Start by giving back to God first (working toward 10% as a floor), then save for yourself (10%), and live on the rest (80%). This counterintuitive order proves God is first in our finances, not an afterthought.
• Begin where you are and grow: If 10% feels overwhelming, start with a percentage you can commit to today. As you develop the discipline of generosity, that percentage will naturally grow as your heart changes.
• Trust God with your needs: Jesus promises that when we seek His kingdom first, our genuine needs will be met. This requires developing the habit of trust, especially in moments when giving doesn't make financial sense by the world's standards.

This week, I encourage you to prayerfully consider what percentage God is calling you to give. Remember, this is about partnership with God, not performance. It's about freedom from the tyranny of stuff, not adding another burden to your life.
